ABC Bouldering League

Begins Sept 2nd

Format - This league is meant to build camaraderie in the gym and help push individuals through good-natured team competition. Participants of all levels are welcome. Build a team of 4 to 6 people of any ability level, come up with a sweet name, and register for the 4 week season. Every Team member will get a score card to track their individual climbs and each team will have a team scorecard to be turned in weekly. Team scores will be based on the best 10 problems climbed per team with a limit of 3 problems per individual climber (scores are pro-rated to ability, see below). At the end of 4 weeks, the team with the highest overall score will become champion of the gym and get their name etched in the Golden Volume of Glory forever.

Scoring - Scoring encourages climbers to boulder their hardest, but that level is different for everyone. Therefore points are scaled for each climber on your team. A climber’s “base-level” is set by their highest grade sent at ABC in the past year. Climbs sent at your “Base-Level” are worth 100 points and 20 points are awarded or subtracted per V grade above or below your base level. (Example- V5 Base Level Climber Scoring: V3=60pts, V4=80pts, V5=100pts, V6=120pts.) The one exception to this rule is for boulder problems V7 and above. Due to the relatively fewer number of hard problems, V7-V10 problems will be given a set base score (105,110,115,120 respectively). If the score of a boulder would be higher based on your handicapped base the higher score will be given. Each climber may only score points on a climb the first time they send it. No points for individual repeats.

BONUS POINTS- 20 Bonus Points will be awarded for the following reasons:
1. Weekly Points Leader -If your teams’ “best 10” score is the highest in a given week.
2. First of a Grade - If a team member sends their first of any grade. This bonus can only be awarded once per season.
3. FLASH NIGHT - Any boulder that is flashed from the new set on Tuesday nights will receive 20 points above the normal score. Flashes must be witnessed on the FIRST TRY. As soon as you touch the holds and/or attempt and fall off a problem, it is no longer a flash.

The Nitty Gritty (Rules)
Points can be scored during any time the gym is open. All sends must be witnessed and signed off by someone else in the gym (a non-team member). A send starts established on start holds and ends controlling the finish with no dabs. Witness should initial scorecard next to grade and problem description.

- It’s great that you’re getting better but we want the scoring to stay fair. Any person who flashes two problems, or sends 4 problems, above their “base-level” will have their base level automatically bumped up for the following week.

- All scorecards (team and individual) must be turned in by Monday night of each week. No cards-no points.

Flash Night - Every Tuesday night there is an opportunity to score bonus points by flashing any of the problems from the new set. Flash points can only be scored on problems from the new set, not from untried problems from old sets. Flash night is also the night where weekly scores will be posted and weekly leaders and bonus points will be announced.

Championship Night - The final night of the season is Championship night, the last night to score points and move your team up the leaderboard. All problems sent on Championship night will be worth 10 more points than normal and teams may record up to 12 problems for the last week.
